Diamond MOT

Postby Rupert Bear » Wed Feb 02, 2011 10:12 pm

Well having owned the old girl for about 17 months and tinkering every now and then I've finally got her booked in for the MOT on Friday. She was last on the road 05/06. I'm hoping there are not too many issues, it's obviously difficult to give her a good run to check things out. We've just spent ages finding the registration document as they've asked for me to bring that along. I imagine this is due to the emissions details as its a kit car. Anyway fingers crossed 8-)

All the best of luck with that. Hope it passes first time or it's not too bad if it does fail.

Hi Thanks

drove her down this afternoon and seemed ok apart from the steering being a bit notchy. I'm not expecting her to pass without a bit of tinkering.

Don't keep us in suspense; How did it go? (And good to see the forum growing, albeit slowly).

Apologies for the slow reply.

Unfortunately she failed on the tyres and the steering.

The tyres were perished and had cuts in (which I can't see) and I suppose seeing it has sat for ages this was enevitable.

The power steering is tight and notchy so I've finally sourced a new rack. Beware of your local factors as they got me a rack for a 77-85 Granada that doesn't match. Further investigation results in a difference between 77-81 and 81-85 models.

So I play a waiting game for the rack, tyres are due in and the easy bit.

There is now another Diamond back on the road :woohoo

A very quick delivery from an ebay seller meant the new rack went in Thursday night and with the tyres booked for Friday I was hoping the re-test I cancelled would still be available. No such luck.

Also it turned out to be a rusty uj coupling on the column and not the rack causing the stiffness

The guys at the tyre place I go to were all over it asking questions and having a good look round.

Anyway re-test this afternoon went swimmingly and I'm just sorting the tax out.

So I'm sure that a few problems may arise as I do a few miles but thats part of the fun!!
