Lost reverse gear

Postby richardh » Sun Aug 05, 2012 12:33 pm

Hi all, my saga continues!
Still can't get the damn dgas to idle properly and now I've got no reverse gear.
Really getting peed off now. If it it's not one thing it's another.

Goes into 1-5 ok but ant find what's wrong.

Anyone got any ideas at all.

Cheers,
Richard

Is it an R380 or LT77 box?. LT77's are prone to shearing the reverse idler shaft on early variants, later ones are generally ok. If it's an R380 or later LT77/LT77S, it could be the bias spring plate for the lever has fractured.
If you can't fix it with a hammer, You must have an electrical problem!

are these easy to check or is it a box-out job? :(

the bias plate & spring are just under the gaitor at the base of the the main gearlever, easily accessible. The reverse idler gear is buried in the bowels of the main box.

Thanks folks, I took it apart and the ball bearing inside is not pushing back against the spring.
So looks like I need a new part.
Cheers for all your advice
