It's not a door, it's a side screen! If it were a door it would have anti burst catches.

If your MOT station is a good one, they will know that they are acceptable. If you're not sure, leave them at home.
If you can't fix it with a hammer, You must have an electrical problem!

Well when I finally finish mine (its been 2 1/2 years now), just the finishing touches required for the MOT, like wipers and bolting the seats back down, its a 3.9 V8 petrol, automatic with a rechipped ECU, but mine was a Range Rover to start off with instead of a Disco! If I hadn't have killed it, it would have had the 4.6V8 out of my P38!
