HELP! London LEZ

Postby rebel_eddie » Wed Apr 06, 2011 9:03 pm

Hello Can anybody please answer this question?

The DVLA cannot without giving me an answer that has no relivence to the question.

Unfortunatly I live inside the LEZ (london emmission zone) area and am interested in building a Sahara based on my 1990 Rangerover Classic.
My Rangerover Is not affected by the LEZ but i am worried that when I build the Sahara it will be liable for the LEZ as it is effect a pickup truck in the eyes of the money grabbing London authoritys.
Is this true or am I worrying unduly?

Can any owner tell me what there V5 now says the vehicle is classed as. :?:

Many Thanks, and hope to move from a prespective owner to a new owner soon.

Eddie..

Hi Eddie
Thanks for joining the NCF forum. I think if you have a four seater like Peter Jerrets, you should have no problem with the LEZ.

Is your motor petrol or diesel? LEZ only affects diesels. I think it's done by taxation class and that hasn't changed on mine so you'll probably be OK.

My Range Rover is Diesel.

Hence my worries.

Working for Cummins the LEZ is a big part of our work but nobody can tell me about vehicle compliance. All the contact I have had with the DVLA, VOSA, and Transport for London was a waste of time as all I get is it depends upon inspection. That's as use full as a Chocolate fire guard.

many thanks
Eddie

Hi eddie
Have you spoken to your local vehicle dvla office. To see if when the change the name of the vehicle to just change the number of seats to 2 and still keep it registered as a car and not a commercial vehicle. Fingers crossed good luck.

My log book came back as "Light 4x4 utility", Pretty non-descriptive. One way around this may be to leave the description on the logbook unchanged, another as already mentioned is make a four seater.

HTH.

Been looking into this, as on occasion I travel to London to visit friends. If I were to take the Sahara, being a diesel, I would have to pay the £100 daily charge (or £500 fine). Unless I fitted a V8 petrol, then it would be exempt.

There is mention on the Transport for London website that you can fit a "filter" to gain exempt status, but I don't know anything about this.

If I were to go in one of my Series LR's, because they were built before 1973 they are both exempt. One is a thirsty 2.25 petrol, the other has a 200tdi fitted (same as the Sahara) - how does that work then!!

Hi Eddie

Some info which may be helpful:

What does not subject to the Low Emission Zone mean?
According to our records this vehicle is not subject to the Low Emission Zone and is not required to meet the Low Emission Zone standards this time.

03 Jan 2012 to onwards

Hello to all.

Many thanks for that information.
Will be in touch to start the order process on the kit. :woohoo

Does anybody know off the top of there head the distance between the to of the chassis rail and the underside of the bonnet? Just ask because i may do an engine conversion after registering the vehicle.

Again many thanks
Eddie :)
